Mokume Gane Band - Copper / Silver

Description

These bands are made using the Japanese technique of mokume gane (meaning "wood grain metal"). Each of them are made by fusing together alternating layers of contrasting metals using heat and pressure, to turn them into one solid block of metal. I then twist and alter that block of metal to give it the flowing and twisting patterns you see in the rings.

Each billet is made by hand by myself, and offers a unique pattern for each ring.

Also, these rings are all made from one band of metal, split down the center and spread open, so they are completely seamless. You get an uninterrupted flowing pattern, which I really enjoy.

This band is made from a combination of copper and sterling silver (.925), in 8 alternating layers.

looking great!
I see you just leave the copper to touch the skin of the wearer, what experience to you have with the copper reacting? Did you protect the surface with some kind of lacquer or something?
I also love your idea of how to make the ring seamless. I haven't made mokume myself so far, only gotten a piece a friend of mine made to work with, but have been pondering of how much nicer it would be to get a continuous pattern.
Good luck with those, I hope you will make many more of them :)
